EDUCATION

Katia Kyriakou graduated with honours in Dietetics (Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition) in 2000, has a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition in 2002 from Long Island University, New York, and a Diploma in Clinical Dietetics (Registered Dietitian, RD) from the Commission of Dietetic Registration in Chicago, IL.  In 2013 she received from the University of Nicosia in association with University of Hertfordshire a diploma in Educators for Certification Student Clinical Placement Education.

SPECIALIZATION

Katia Kyriakou specializes in the relationship between obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. She has participated in research such as the Epidemiological Research on the Prevalence of Obesity and Overweight Cypriot Adults and their Nutritional Habits, Cyprus Dietetic Association/ Assistant Scientific Advisor, 2006-2009 and the Effect of oral hypoglycaemic agents versus insulin in obese subjects with Type 2 diabetes in relation to weight loss, waist circumference and body fat mass- Dr Ashok Vaswany Endocrinologic Clinic, New York, 2000-2002.

EXPERIENCE

Katia Kyriakou worked in an Endocrinology Clinic in New York for 2 years before returning to Cyprus where she works in the private sector, she collaborated with the “Arodafnousa” palliative care foundation, from 2003 until 2010, with kindergartens and food companies. She has taught nutrition at the University of Nicosia (2010) and from 2014 to today she was an Internship Educator at the University of Nicosia. She is one of the authors of the book “Nutrition and Cancer, A Consultative Guide” published in collaboration with the Cyprus Dietitians Association and the Oncology Centre (2004). She was also the scientific editor of the childrens book “Journey to Hygioupoli” by Olga Roubem (2011). She worked as an assistant scientific advisor in the epidemiological research on the prevalence of obesity and overweight Cypriot adults and their nutritional habits, which was funded by the Foundation for the Promotion of Research in 2006. From 2018 to the present, she collaborates with the Platonas Medical Centre. She is the President and Cofounder of the Pancyprian Association for Genetic Rare Diseases –UNIGUE SMILES from 2013
