EDUCATION
Dr Stephanou attended Medical School at Athens University, where he received his Medical Doctorate (M.D) as a Physician. He went on to do a 5-year internal medicine Residency in the USA, Cyprus, Greece and Australia.
In the USA he was an Intern at Carilion Clinic in Virginia and at Norwalk Hospital which is affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine.
In Cyprus he did his residency at Nicosia and Limassol General Hospital and in Greece he spent 2 months in the Incision & Drainage Department as well as 2 months in the Intensive Care Unit with a Fellowship in Critical Care at the Evangelismos General Hospital in Athens.
He received his PhD with specialization in Progenitor Cell (EPC) mobilization and physiology of the acute effects of electrical muscle stimulation in ICU patients. He obtained a European Diploma of Echocardiogram (EDEC) and was an ICU trainee at the Nepean Hospital Intensive Care Unit, in Penrith, Sydney, New South Wales in Australia.
SPECIALIZATION
Dr Stephanou is an Internal Medicine Doctor with specialization in Intensive Care. He has a European Diploma of Echocardiogram and is a board-certified physician in Intensive Care, providing care for critically ill patients.
EXPERIENCE
Dr Stephanou served as an Intensivist at Nicosia and Limassol General Hospitals and at the Aretaeio Private Hospital in Nicosia. He served as Assistant Professor at St. George ’s University Hospital and as Special Scientist Collaborator in ICU at the Technical University of Cyprus. Dr. Stephanou also served as a General Practitioner at Palladio Clinic and was also an Army GP.
He is President of the Health and Psychosocial Support Committee of the Cyprus Red Cross
