EDUCATION

Dr Fotis Yerosimou graduated from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2015 through the English-language medical programme. His medical thesis focused on minimally invasive approaches to incisional hernia surgery.

He subsequently completed a Master of Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Nicosia between 2016 and 2018, further strengthening his knowledge in healthcare management, public administration and health policy.

In 2021, Dr Yerosimou obtained his Specialist Qualification in Anaesthesiology following his specialist training at Theagenio Cancer Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece. He further enhanced his emergency medicine expertise by successfully completing the 24th Postgraduate Programme in Emergency Pre-Hospital Medicine organised by the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAB) between 2019 and 2020.

Throughout his career, Dr Yerosimou has continuously pursued advanced professional education through numerous international conferences, postgraduate courses and specialised training programmes in anaesthesiology, intensive care medicine, airway management, oncology, pain medicine, regional anaesthesia, emergency medicine, neurocritical care and mechanical ventilation.

SPECIALIZATION

Dr Yerosimou specialises in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, providing comprehensive perioperative care for patients undergoing a broad range of surgical procedures. His expertise encompasses general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, airway management, perioperative monitoring, postoperative critical care and the management of complex, high-risk surgical patients.

He has a particular clinical interest in oncological anaesthesia, pain medicine, palliative care, mechanical ventilation, critical care medicine and non-invasive respiratory support. His experience includes the management of critically ill patients, advanced haemodynamic monitoring, emergency airway management, respiratory failure, sepsis and perioperative intensive care.

Dr Yerosimou has also developed significant academic expertise in mechanical ventilation and respiratory support, having authored multiple book chapters published by internationally recognised medical publishers, including Springer and Nova Science Publishers. His scientific work focuses on patient-ventilator interaction, non-invasive mechanical ventilation, arterial blood gas interpretation, respiratory physiology, hypercapnic respiratory failure, intensive care medicine and supportive care for oncology patients.

He maintains an active interest in medical education, clinical research and evidence-based practice, regularly participating in scientific meetings and presenting clinical research in the fields of anaesthesiology, intensive care medicine, oncology and pain management.

EXPERIENCE

Dr Fotis Yerosimou has extensive clinical experience in anaesthesiology, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine, gained through both specialist training and clinical practice in Cyprus and Greece.

Since November 2023, he has been practising as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at Ledra Maternity Hospital in Nicosia, where he provides anaesthetic care for a wide variety of surgical and obstetric procedures.

Between 2022 and 2023, he completed advanced subspecialty training in Intensive Care Medicine at Theagenio Cancer Hospital in Thessaloniki, caring for critically ill patients requiring advanced organ support, mechanical ventilation and complex multidisciplinary management.

From 2016 to 2021, Dr Yerosimou completed his specialist training in Anaesthesiology at Theagenio Cancer Hospital, one of Greece’s leading oncology centres. During this period, he gained extensive experience in anaesthesia for oncological surgery, thoracic surgery, major abdominal procedures and complex perioperative care, while also developing significant expertise in pain management and palliative care.

Prior to his specialist training, he completed clinical placements and medical internships at several hospitals in Cyprus, including St Raphael Private Hospital and the Ophthalmos Research and Educational Institute, gaining valuable early experience across multiple medical specialties.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Yerosimou has maintained a strong academic and research profile. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed book chapters in internationally recognised medical publications on intensive care medicine, mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology and non-invasive ventilation. He has also presented scientific research and clinical case studies at numerous national and international conferences in anaesthesiology, intensive care medicine, oncology, pain medicine and emergency medicine, receiving several awards and commendations for his scientific contributions.

Dr Yerosimou is an active member of the Cyprus Medical Association (CyMA), the Medical Association of Thessaloniki, the Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine of Northern Greece, and the Hellenic Society of Pain Management and Palliative Care.
