EDUCATION

Dr Michail Feretis studied Medicine in the United Kingdom and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Aberdeen. He subsequently completed his two-year Foundation Training in hospitals across Scotland, followed by a two-year Core Surgical Training rotation in the North of England (Yorkshire and Humber Deanery).

Following completion of his core surgical training, he secured a place on the highly competitive six-year National Training Programme in General Surgery in the East of England (Training Number: EAN/021/00135C). During this period, he declared a subspecialty interest in pancreatic, liver, and transplant surgery and was appointed to a three-year training post at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

Alongside his clinical training, Dr Feretis was affiliated with Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in Cambridge, where he conducted basic science research focusing on the immunological properties of pancreatic cancer. His research period was supported by a competitive grant awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In 2022, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and was entered onto the UK Specialist Register as a General Surgeon.

Following completion of his higher surgical training, Dr Feretis undertook further subspecialty fellowship training in advanced pancreatic, liver, and liver transplant surgery at major hepatobiliary centres in Basingstoke and at the internationally renowned Liver Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, one of Europe’s largest hepatobiliary and liver transplant centres.

SPECIALIZATION

In his clinical practice, Dr Feretis manages the full spectrum of pancreatic conditions, including pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, neuroendocrine tumours, and pancreatitis, as well as a wide range of liver-related conditions such as liver metastases, primary liver malignancies, liver cysts, bile duct cancers, and complications related to liver transplantation.

He performs major liver and pancreatic surgery, utilising minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques where clinically appropriate. In addition, he treats a broad range of general surgical conditions, including gallstone disease, abdominal wall hernias, bowel pathology, and soft tissue lumps and lesions.

EXPERIENCE

Dr Feretis relocated to Cyprus in May 2024 and currently practises as a Hepatobiliary and General Surgeon affiliated with the General Healthcare System (GHS). He provides outpatient and surgical care to patients in both Nicosia and Limassol.
