EDUCATION

Dr Ioanna Pozotou was born in Nicosia in 1993. She completed her secondary education at Ethnomartyras Kyprianos Lyceum in Nicosia, graduating in 2011. She then pursued her medical degree at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she graduated in 2017 with the distinction of “Excellent”.

In 2018, she commenced her surgical training at Limassol General Hospital before completing her residency in General Surgery at Nicosia General Hospital in 2024. Following the successful completion of her training, she was awarded the specialty of General Surgery by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Further enhancing her expertise, she pursued postgraduate studies in Colorectal Surgery, obtaining a Master’s degree from the University of Larissa.

SPECIALIZATION

Dr Pozotou specialises in a wide range of surgical procedures, both elective and emergency surgeries. Her expertise includes laparoscopic cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis, laparoscopic hernia repairs (umbilical, inguinal, incisional, complex abdominal), and laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant diseases of the small and large bowel.

She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and surgical management of breast diseases, including breast cysts, fibroadenomas, and breast cancer. Additionally, she specialises in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, treating conditions such as thyroid cancer and multinodular goitre.

Dr Pozotou also has a strong focus on minimally invasive techniques for treating perianal diseases, including haemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, and pilonidal sinus, with the use of LASER treatment. Her expertise extends to laparoscopic appendectomy, treatment of lipomas, moles, and other skin conditions, as well as central vein access procedures, including the insertion of ports (Port-A-Cath) and dialysis catheters for oncology and renal patients.

Her proficiency in emergency and trauma surgery further solidifies her role as a highly skilled and versatile general surgeon.

Dr Pozotou has extensive experience in both public and private healthcare settings, having trained at Limassol and Nicosia General Hospitals. Her surgical expertise encompasses a broad range of procedures, with a special interest in colorectal surgery, as well as emergency and trauma surgery.
