EDUCATION

Dr Eric Soteriou completed his secondary education at Apostolos Varnavas Lyceum in Strovolos. Following the completion of his national military service, he pursued medical studies in Germany at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. He graduated in 2011 with the title Dr. med. and subsequently began his specialist training in Anaesthesiology at several prominent hospitals across Germany.

SPECIALIZATION

Dr Soteriou specialises in Anaesthesiology with subspecialty expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia. After completing his specialist training, he worked for three years as a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthesiologist in a dedicated Children’s Hospital in Germany. Over this period, he performed more than 2,000 anaesthetic procedures in children, including high-risk cases involving neonates and infants under one year of age—the smallest being a preterm infant weighing just 350 grams. This experience has equipped him with extensive knowledge and skill in one of the most challenging subspecialties of Anaesthesiology.

Beyond his paediatric focus, Dr Soteriou has further developed advanced expertise in Neuroanaesthesia, Obstetric Anaesthesia, and Thoracic Anaesthesia. He is proficient in managing both routine and complex procedures within these fields and employs internationally recognised protocols and the latest techniques to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

He is also highly experienced in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia for both adult and paediatric patients, offering modern, minimally invasive pain control methods as part of his daily clinical practice.

In parallel with his clinical duties, Dr Soteriou has been actively involved in medical education. During his time in Germany, he taught both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, contributing to the academic training of the next generation of doctors.

EXPERIENCE

Since returning to Cyprus in 2021, Dr Soteriou has been practising as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at several leading private hospitals and medical centres, including Platonas Medical Centre, Aretaeio Hospital, The Surgery Center 3i, and El Greco Medical Centre. His work involves collaboration with multidisciplinary surgical teams, where he provides comprehensive anaesthetic care to adult and paediatric patients across a broad spectrum of surgical procedures.

From 2018 to 2021, he served as a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthesiologist at St. Elisabethen Hospital in Lörrach, Germany, where he was responsible for the perioperative care of children of all ages as well as women undergoing obstetric and gynaecological surgeries.

Between 2014 and 2018, he completed his residency in Anaesthesiology at Ortenau Klinikum Offenburg. His training included intensive care medicine, pain management, and the anaesthetic management of patients undergoing surgeries in all major specialties.

Dr Soteriou began his specialist training in 2013 at the University Hospital of Freiburg, one of the largest and most prestigious medical centres in the European Union, where he gained a solid foundation in all areas of Anaesthesiology.

He is a fully registered and recognised Anaesthesiologist with both the German Medical Council (Ärztekammer) and the Cyprus Medical Association. With more than a decade of international clinical experience, Dr Soteriou is known for delivering high-quality, evidence-based anaesthetic care in both adult and paediatric settings.
