EDUCATION

Dr Andrea Solomou graduated from the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine at the University of Dresden, Germany, where she completed her medical studies and obtained her medical degree. She has accumulated more than ten years of clinical experience across the fields of internal medicine, gastroenterology, and hepatology.

SPECIALIZATION

Dr Solomou provides comprehensive medical care for a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatological disorders. She has a particular clinical interest in hepatology, with extensive experience managing conditions such as hepatic cirrhosis and Metabolic Dysfunction–Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).

She is also specialised in the diagnosis and management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, offering tailored treatment plans based on the latest evidence-based guidelines.

 

Endoscopy Services

Dr Solomou performs a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. All investigations are carried out under sedation, with an anaesthesiologist present, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Most patients are discharged shortly after the procedure.

Her endoscopic services include:

Gastroscopy – Endoscopic evaluation of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum, with Helicobacter pylori testing when clinically indicated.

Colonoscopy – Complete examination of the colon and terminal ileum.

Polypectomy / Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) – Removal of benign or early malignant lesions.

Endoscopic Haemostasis – Management of gastrointestinal bleeding using haemostatic clips, submucosal adrenaline injections, or thermal coagulation techniques.

Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) – Endoscopic treatment of vascular lesions, including angiodysplasias.

Capsule Endoscopy – Advanced imaging of the small intestine for the investigation of gastrointestinal bleeding, iron deficiency anaemia, suspected small bowel tumours, and other conditions.

EXPERIENCE

Dr Solomou has developed extensive clinical experience across multiple areas of internal medicine, including diabetology, geriatrics, and general medical care. Her dedication to digestive health led her to further specialise in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Most recently, she worked at AK Harburg, a specialised gastroenterology centre in Hamburg, Germany, where more than 4,000 gastroenterological cases are diagnosed and treated each year. Her experience in this high-volume, advanced clinical setting significantly enriched her expertise in complex diagnostic procedures, therapeutic endoscopy, and chronic disease management.

 

She is an active member of several professional medical organisations, including:
