EDUCATION

Dr Hadjigavriel was born in Cyprus. After finishing his education at Terra Santa College in Nicosia, he went on to study faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna in Italy where he gained his medical degree. He is fluent in three languages, English, Italian and Greek.

SPECIALIZATION

Dr Hadjigavriel went on to specialize in Nephrology at the Sant’Orsola University Hospital earning his postgraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery, specializing in Nephrology. He also took a post-graduate course in Renal Biopsy and fine needle aspiration biopsy in renal transplantation at the Transplantation Laboratory of the University of Helsinki in Finland. At Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Israel he completed a post-graduate course in Invasive Ultrasonography and Ultrasonographic assessment of transplant kidney.

EXPERIENCE

From 1984 to 1985, Dr Hadjigavriel held the position of Specialist Nephrologist at the Sant’Orsola University Hospital in Bologna, Italy. In 1986 he returned to Cyprus and held the position of Transplant Nephrologist at the Paraskevaidion Surgical and Transplant Centre in Nicosia. A position he held until 2008.

From 2008 to 2018 he was Director of Nephrology and Dialysis at the Nephrology and Dialysis Unit at the Larnaca General Hospital, and from 2018 he runs his own private practice providing services in Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology.

Dr Hadjigavriel also held the position of Scientific Collaborator and Professor of Nephrology at the European University of Cyprus from 2016 to 2020.

He is a member, amongst others, of the European Society of Organ Transplantation, the Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation, the European Dialysis Transplant Association, the European Society of Artificial Organs, the Greek Society of Nephrology, the Cyprus Medical Association, and the Italian Society of Nephrology. From 2012 to 2014 he was Vice President of the Cyprus Society of Nephrology.
