EDUCATION

Dr Marcoullis holds Medical Degrees from the University of Athens, (with Distinction), and New York State University, a PhD (ScD, with honours) from the University of Helsinki School of Medicine in Finland, and the Medal of Honour for Distinguished Scientists, from the Medical School of the University of Nancy in France.

He completed his training consecutively in General Medicine (Chief Medical Resident), Oncology, Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at the New York Medical College, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and Montefiore Hospital Medical Centres in New York.

SPECIALIZATION

Dr Marcoullis received specialized training at John Hopkins, National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA), MINERVA Institute (Finland) and Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Medicale (INSERM, France). He holds certified specialties in Medical Oncology, Internal Medicine (Pathology) and Haematology by the respective American Boards of Internal Medicine, European Society of Medical Oncology, and the Cyprus Medical Council. Dr Marcoullis was/is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Societies of Clinical Oncology, Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, the European Societies of Medical Oncology, and Haematology and other valid societies.

Dr Marcoullis has published more than 50 original scientific studies and chapters in prestigious international scientific journals, books and hundreds of educational articles and reviews. He has received funding and awards from the NIH, INSERM, the Veterans Administration Hospital (Washington DC, USA), the WHO and the Universities of Nancy, Helsinki, and Athens. Dr Marcoullis was awarded the “Distinguished Scientist” Prize/Medal of Honour from the University of Nancy.

EXPERIENCE

Dr Marcoullis is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Nicosia (UNIC) (Saint George’s University of London Medical Program), director of Oncology/Haematology and head of academic education at the Hippocrateon Hospital (UNIC), previously served as Deputy Dean and Professor of the School of Medicine, European University of Cyprus (EUC).

Dr Marcoullis served as President of the “Organizing Committee of the Medical School, of the European University of Cyprus”, Dean and Professor of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Frederick University and founding member and co-director of the Eastern Mediterranean Haemato-Oncology and Radiotherapy Center. He served as Director of Haematology/Oncology at Medical Centers in the US and Europe. Before his return from the USA (2005), he was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the New York Medical College (NYMC) and Biochemistry at the University of Nancy (France) and head of the “Primordial Stem Cell Transplantation Unit”, Our Lady of Mercy Medical Centre in New York.

Dr Marcoullis is/was: Chairman of the “International Advisory Committee of the European University of Cyprus Medical School”, co-founder of the “Patient Rights Movement” and in the “Committee for cooperation of Greek and Turkish Cypriot Medical Professionals”, National Representative of Cyprus, in ESMO, member of the Council of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Association (where he co-organized the first Day Care Centre for Cancer Patients in Cyprus), co-directed many Cancer Awareness Campaigns and Seminars and served as a member of editorial boards of medical journals and reviewer of scientific publications. Dr Marcoullis also served as Vice-President of the Cyprus Oncology Society and Vice-President of the “Committee for Support to AIDS Patients and their Families”.
